My First Words

Piano Lessons (2nd grade)

Every Sunday morning
I make plans for the day.
But only if my piano lessons
are out of the way.

My first book (3rd grade)

I made my first official book in Mrs. Montgomery’s third grade class, Highview Elementary, Nanuet, N.Y. It had a striped cloth cover and manila pages stitched together at the seams. I was so proud of it. Here is how the story starts...

Once in a kingdom far away lived five brothers. One was named Gilbert, another Harry, another Herman, another Larry, and the fifth and littlest, Simon. Well, one day when they were chopping wood, Gilbert said, “Brothers, let us go marry.”

Now the other brothers were between 15 to 19 and Herman didn’t think they could find wives so he spoke up and asked, “Why in the world would we want to get married? We're all so young.”

“Well, we could at least look for a wife,” said Larry.

“I guess that would be all right,” answered Herman. So the five brothers set out to find a wife.

The Apple Tree (4th grade)

Out of my window I can see,
A tree as pretty as can be.
I think it is an apple tree,
That winks and smiles at even me.

In the summer,
its blossoms bloom,
But yet very, very soon,
We’ll have apples red and white,
To eat all during a cold winter night.

One day, I looked out
and what did I see
Can you guess?
A withered out tree.

I was so sorry I could have cried,
To look at the apple tree
That just had died,
For that was the nicest that I could see.
