Performances
Storytelling is one of the world’s oldest artforms and yet one very effective in today’s high tech world. Storytelling touches listeners on various levels, and celebrates our heritage and our humanity as global citizens today. I've shared stories in hundreds of settings in Asia, U.S., and Canada, with all ages. Each programs usually lasts 45 minutes and can be adapted for various needs and backgrounds.
A Storyteller’s Sampler
I choose favorites to share from my family stories, Asian tales with traditional prop, a story with song or sign language, an original tale woven magically from paper, problem tales, or a good old ghost story.
Journey to Asia
Asian tricksters, ghosts, heroes, and more come alive as I share tales collected during years in Asia. I often use various objects from Asia, including unique traditional props, to help listeners explore a region rich in story. (Programs can also focus exclusively on Japan, Korea, India, China, or Southeast Asia.)
A Celebration of the Writer’s Art
I share tales that I've created, talk about finding stories, and share personal anecdotes about the editing process. Folk and family material along with Asian storytelling props — story scrolls, storytelling cards, story cloths — are presented to inspire young writers and illustrators.
Multicultural U.S. History
This program for high school students shares a range of lesser known tales from Anerican history and legend, including the story of Chipita Rodriquez, Marie Dorion, David Dodd, and others to remember.
